Guitar Capo Finder and Chord Transposer

Keep the song in its sounding key while finding shapes you can play, or move the whole progression to a new key. Copy, download, or print the result.

Use chord-only lines, or bracket chords inside your own text: [G]hello [D]world. Ordinary lyric lines stay unchanged. Major, minor, seventh, suspended, and slash chords are supported.

Diagrams show shape fingerings. When using a capo, count frets from the capo. “x” means mute; “o” means open relative to the capo. Diagrams cover common shapes, not every supported chord name.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter chord-only lines or bracketed chords in your own text.
  2. Choose a capo fret to calculate shapes, or a semitone shift to transpose the sounding chords.
  3. Try the suggested open shapes, then copy or print the result.

Worked example

To sound G, D, Em, C with capo 2, play F, C, Dm, Bb. To transpose G, D, Em, C upward by two semitones, the sounding chords become A, E, F#m, D.
